Drive Dull Care Away

A song for times when priorities need re-prioritizing.

DRIVE DULL CARE AWAY
English Traditional Song

Why should we at our lot complain, or grieve at our distress?
Some think if they should riches gain 'twould be true happiness.
But alas, how vain is all their strife - life's cares it cannot allay,
So while we're here with our friends so dear we'll drive dull care away!

Why should the rich despise the poor? Why should the poor repine?
When we will all in a few short years in equal friendship join...
We're all to blame, we are all the same, we are all made of one clay,
So while we're here with our friends so dear we'll drive dull care away!

The only circumstance in life that I could ever find
To conquer care or temper strife was: a contented mind.
With this in store we have much more than all things else can convey,
So while we're here with our friends so dear we'll drive dull care away!

So let us make the best of life, not rendering it a curse,
But take it as you would a wife, for better or for worse.
Life at it's best is but a jest on a dreary winter's day,
So while we're here with our friends so dear we'll drive dull care away!

My memories of this song involve groups of morris dancers, dark pubs, pint glasses clinking rhythmically on the tables at the end of the first and second lines of each verse, and huge harmonies (often including notes not found in "normal" chords) on the choruses. Thanks for reminding me.

DULL CARE is a freemasonic thing, somthing to do with thier godess orisis they burn it every year under a gigantic statue of an owl at a place called Bohemian Grove. And believe me people from nixon to both bush's, john major, blair, gordon brown and much more than you think and this was before they became president or prime minister and whatever high rank they got thanks to the bilderberg group thats what they are called or NWO

Here is somthing i copied and pasted; The "cremation of dull care" is reported by the members of the Bohemian Grove that it is the act of shedding the members of their worldly worries that are placed upon them by their position of power (i.e. political, governmental, etc..). They do this so they may enjoy their retreat.

But what is extremely suspicious is the idol that they dedicated this ritual to, and that is Molech.

Molech was a national pagan god for the Ammonites. They would sacrifice their own children to this god. Their method was to heat the statue by a fire placed within it. Then at it's hottest point the Ammonites would place their children, alive mind you, in the the burning arms of the statue as a sacrifice to gain favor of this idol.

So what logic is behind some of the most prominent and powerful people in the world reinacting a pagan ritual that sacrificed children?

The only answer that i can state from what i have researched on this subject is that they are worshipping a false god. Bear in mind that many of the members of this group claim to be conservative christians and even worse, these people make decisions that affect the world.

here is a small list of members:

Jimmy Carter
Ronald Regan
Bush Sr. and Jr.
Bill Clinton
Henry Kissenger

Alex Jones infiltrated the Bohemian Grove and exposed it with live video footage. He goes in depth about the grove, the attendees, Moloch- the giant statue of an owl they prey to....all of this stuff dates WAY back in history....do a little research....GoogleVideo: Dark Secrets Inside the Bohemian Grove

I know this poem from the arrangement of the song in the Sacred Harp, a shape note tunebook first published in 1844.

The New England Sacred Harp Singing Convention, a full weekend of singing from the Sacred Harp, is actually coming up next weekend (Sept. 28 and 29) and will be held in Middletown, CT. The chair of the convention is a Professor at Wesleyan University. You should tell you son about it, if he doesn't already know!

More on the Convention is at neconvention.net. More on Sacred Harp singing is at Fasola.org.

Thanks for posting the lyrics to Dull Care. Where did you come across the song?

I too learned this with Morris dancers. Amherst, MA, at the Drake, in the 80's.
Good memories.
