What weed is this??

Inquiring minds need to know! Is it poisonous to donkeys? Update: I just found out from my extension agent - this is "yellow crownbeard" and is not poisonous.

The plant kind of looks like Lamb's Quarter but to be sure you should send your pictures to your state's Native Plant Society web site. If NC doesn't do plant ID then check your neighboring states' Native Plant Society websites to see if they do plant ID. They might also be able to answer your donkey edibility question. Good luck!

looks to me like a mature turnip or mustard plant. might be able to tell by the roots. Also they usually have a sweet smell.
best to check w/ your county extension agent

As anonymous 10:01 recommended, I wrote to my extension agent and this was her answer: "This is yellow crownbeard. It is fairly common and is not poisonous. In fact even goats won't eat it."

Hi Jane

I recognize this weed, but cannot name it. I know my donkeys pass it by and
don't even try to eat it, so not a problem. I just was pulling some of it
out yesterday to change some fencing, and recognize it easily.

Joe
